Screen Door Entertainment was launched in 2001 by veteran television producer-director-writer Joel Rizor, and produced 78 half-hours of network programming in its first year. Productions included The Seasoned Gardener (field series), and the award winning The Insider’s Garden (studio-based series) both for HGTV.
In 2002, the company took over production of the popular and long running HGTV series Room By Room.
An original surprise makeover series, Outer Spaces, featuring lifestyle expert Susie Coelho debuted in 2003.
In 2004, SDE proved that “how-to” can be hip when it began producing programming for the DIY Network. The first series, Knitty Gritty, showcases knitting, one of the hottest craft trends among young women, in a fun and funky style. Also in 2004, SDE launched a unit dedicated solely to production of programming for broadband and Video On Demand. Clients include Disney Online, HGTV, TV Food Network, Scripps Networks and DIY Network.
In 2005 SDE began production of three major new original studio-based series for the DIY Network: Craft Lab, Uncommon Threads and Stylelicious. Two new docu/reality series, Real Estate Confidential and Shopping With Chefs, were added to the production slate in 2006. Both are set to debut in 2007 on the Fine Living Network.
From network specials to syndicated and cable series, talk shows to magazine shows to documentaries, SDE does it all. Executive Producer Joel Rizor has produced thousands of hours of programming for Discovery, ABC, NBC, A&E, History Channel, Food Network, HGTV, DIY, Sci Fi Channel, and others. He leads an experienced production team, personally guiding every project from beginning to end. The SDE team delivers award winning, high quality and creative productions.
